Betty Sue Gressett

Sep 24, 1935 — Aug 10, 2026

Snyder, TX

Betty Sue Gressett of Snyder, Texas passed from this earth to her heavenly home on August 10, 2026, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. Sue was born on September 24, 1935, in Colorado City, Texas.

An honors graduate from Westbrook High School and Hardin-Simmons University, she married the love of her life, Leroy D. Gressett, on August 5, 1955.

Sue was known by many names; Mom, Nonna, Teacher, and the occupant that lived at the “Corner of Awesome and Bombdiggity.” She was a longtime teacher in Snyder Public Schools, and teacher is likely the most accurate noun to describe her. Teaching, however, was not a noun to her. It was a verb and verbs connotate action. Anyone who was ever in her class can attest to the fact teaching constituted a state of being for Sue rather than a title. Even though retired, she continued to teach right up until the time she left this earth. She will be dearly missed by family, friends, and former students.

She was a member of Colonial Hill Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy D. Gressett; son, Randy Gressett; mother and father, Orlean Cook and Earl Cook, Sr.; brother, Earl Cook, Jr.; and sister, Faye Cook.

Sue is survived by her son, Tommy Gressett (Robyn); grandson, Jonathan Gressett (Phoebe); granddaughters Lauren Green (Kevin) Bailey Cates (Derek) and McCall Hawthorne (Rance). Sue is also survived by six great grandchildren; Elsie Gressett, Brock Gressett, Brinley Green, Lainey Kay Green, Emberlyn Cates, and Thomas Hawthorne.

In addition, she is survived by her sister-in-law, Betty Cook, nephew, Jon Cook and niece Emilie Cook Drinnon.

Sue’s life verse is descriptive of how she lived her life. “And he said unto me, my Grace is sufficient for thee; for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glorify in my infirmities, that the Power of Christ may rest upon me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9.
