Durelle Stokes Gorman

October 20, 1929 — July 25, 2025

Lubbock

Durelle Stokes Gorman, 95, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2025, at The Isle at Raider Ranch in Lubbock, Texas.

Royce Durelle was born in Ft. Worth, Texas on October 20, 1929, to Roy and Dimple Stokes.

In 1952 Durelle married Jack Streety Gorman and they made their home in Snyder, Texas, where they raised their two boys, Jack Streety Gorman II and Richard Ogden Gorman.

Durelle received her public education in Snyder and graduated from Snyder High School. She went on to further her education by earning a bachelor's degree at Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas and then her master's degree from North Texas State University in Denton, Texas.

Durelle started teaching in Nuremberg, Germany, where she taught the American children on the U.S. Army military base where her husband, Jack, was stationed. After Jack completed his service in Germany they moved back to Snyder where she began a long career with the Snyder Independent School District. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma for over 50 years.

Durelle spent most of her career as a 4th grade elementary school teacher and then later as a high school librarian. She loved her students and talked about them often. Her students loved her as well and many kept up correspondence with her over the years through phone calls, texts, cards and visits. Many of her past students have reached out to share how much they loved her and to tell of the difference she made in their lives.

Durelle especially loved her family and told each one how much she loved them every time she saw them. She was a loving, generous and kind role model to her family and to all who knew her. Most importantly, Durelle loved Jesus and is now face to face with her Lord and Saviour.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, William Richard Stokes and his wife Jane Stokes. Durelle is survived by two sons, Jack and his wife Kim of Wolfforth and Richard and his wife Pam of Lubbock; her five grandchildren, Trey and his wife Tera of Renton, Washington, Charlie and his wife Jessica of Lubbock, Jay and his wife Dusty of Olton, Justin and his wife Jennifer of Abilene, and Kaycee Gorman Tabor and her husband Josh Tabor of Shallowater. She is also survived by her 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will gather for a private burial service in Snyder. Arrangements are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.

Memorials can be made to a charity of your choice.
