Helen Spencer Spivey passed away August 9, 2025 at age 96 at Providence Home in Mishawaka, IN. She was the daughter of Mabel and Roy Spencer, born in Snyder, TX and raised in Mountainair N.M. She and Joe Spivey were married after meeting while attending Highlands University in Las Vegas, N.M. After their marriage they lived in California, Wyoming and then Billings, Montana, while Joe started his career as a teacher, coach and principal. Helen finished her education degree at Eastern Montana College in Billings and taught elementary education in that area for many years. After retirement, they built a home and lived near Red Lodge, MT for several years before moving to Snyder, TX. She and Joe came to Mishawaka in 2021 to be closer to family. Besides professional and family responsibilities, Helen was always involved and committed to Emmanuel Baptist Church in Billings and First Baptist Church in Snyder. Helen was preceded in death by her husband of almost 75 years, Joe Spivey, her daughter, Karen Spivey, her parents, Mabel and Roy Spencer and five siblings, Barbara,Verna, Roy (Sonny), Patricia, and Richard. , Helen is survived by her son Norm (Lois) Spivey of Mishawaka, IN, grandsons Matt (Beth) Spivey of Scottsdale AZ and Steve (Tara) Spivey and great-grandchildren Hannah, Norah, Jude and Ava of Granger, IN. Also surviving are sisters-in-law Lula Spencer and Bonnie Spencer and numerous nieces and nephews. Burial will be at 10 AM, Friday, August 15, 2025 at Nolan Cemetery in Nolan County TX. Arrangements will be under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral home in Snyder. |
