JoAnn Lumpkin Peek, age 94, passed away quietly at home on Sunday, July 26, 2026.

JoAnn was born to Thomas Fulton Lumpkin and Julia O’Connor Lumpkin in Tyler, Texas on August 19, 1931. She grew up in Commerce, Texas. She graduated from East Texas State in 1953 and moved to Snyder, Texas for her first elementary school teaching job. She served Snyder ISD for 33 years.

In 1954, she joined the First Methodist Church where she met the love of her life, Ollie Peek who was a high school math teacher; they were married for 56 years. Together they enjoyed family, church and school events and participated in community service. During retirement, tour group travel adventures brought great joy. Ollie passed away on October 1, 2012.

JoAnn volunteered over 3000 hours as a Pink Lady in Cogdell Hospital Auxiliary, retiring in 2013.

She also enjoyed being a member of the Altrurian Daughters Study Club for many years.

She had membership in several teacher organizations including Texas State Teacher Association, National Education Association, and Texas Teacher Retirement Association.

She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church (now Grace Fellowship) for 72 years. She served in many capacities including Sunday School teacher, Benevolent Committee, Prayer Chapel Committee, and the Caregiving Committee which delivered communion to home bound members. The church was the foundation for many of her cherished friendships.

Survivors include:

Her daughter, Suzanne Kimball and husband Sandy of Ransom Canyon, Texas.

Her son, Tom Peek and wife Brit of Glennallen, Alaska.

Her three grandchildren, Michael Reed and wife Brenda of Midland, Texas. Brianne Matlage and husband Karl of Camp Lejuene, North Carolina and Aaron Peek of Glennallen, Alaska.

Her two great granddaughters Ali and Madeleine Matlage of Camp Lejuene, North Carolina.

Scott Kimball of Ransom Canyon, Shane and Laura Kimball of Nazareth, Texas and Brody, Collin and Caleb Kimball.

The family wishes to express deep gratitude for her dedicated caregivers Maria, Kristie, and Julie as well as the doctors and nurses of West Texas Home Health and Hospice and McWilliams Pharmacy. Their expertise and compassion went “above and beyond” during difficult times.

Visitation at Bell-Cypert Seale Funeral Home on Thursday, August 7, 2026 6-7 pm.

Services at Odom Chapel at Grace Fellowship in Snyder on Friday, August 7, 2026 at 10 am, with Pastor Michael Hinton officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.

Memorials may be given to Grace Fellowship Church and Gateway Family Services in Snyder.
