Miriam Sullivan Cochran

Miriam Sullivan Cochran of Irving, Texas went home to be with the Lord after a long

battle with Alzheimer’s on Monday, August 5, 2019 at the age of 91. It was a special day

in that Miriam chose the birthday of her late husband Loren to be reunited.

Miriam was born in Appomattox, Virginia on February 27, 1928 and was the first born to

Bob and Violet Hannah. She and her three siblings grew up on the family’s farm along the

banks of the Appomattox River. Her childhood memories included climbing cherry trees,

eating cherry to the point of getting sick and sliding down the banks of the river. Miriam

was always described from the earliest age as a “natural bubbling personality that loved

people while having fun and bringing joy during times of hardship”. Her children and

grandchildren witnessed these same happy attributes.

She leaves a legacy of faith and trust in God. She faced many trials and was steadfast in

her belief in God and knowing He would provide. Her four children learned from her

example. Although she will be missed, her family takes comfort in knowing she is in heaven

and has received her crown of life. James 1:12

She met the love of her life, Loren W. Sullivan Jr. in Richmond and they were married on

November 15, 1947. They lived in Virginia, Arkansas, Oklahoma and eventually settled into

Texas where they lived the remainder of their lives. For many years they lived in Snyder,

Texas where he managed the JC Penny store. They became active members in the First

Baptist Church serving in many ministries. Miriam loved praise music and into her final

days could be found clapping and dancing for Jesus! Upon the early death of her husband,

Miriam found great comfort and purpose by working at the church. She served many years

as the financial secretary and many considered her as the joyful soul in the office. While

working at the church, she met Ray Cochran and they married in January 1983.

Miriam is survived by three children, Patricia Myers and husband Jimmy of Bakersfield,

California, Susan Kruger and husband Wesley of Austin, Texas and John Sullivan and wife

Nancy of Coppell, Texas. Her grandchildren include Jason Sullivan, Megan Alsharki,

greatgrandchild. Her siblings include Barbara Swingle of Virginia and Sarah Frye of North

Carolina. She is preceded in death by her husband Loren Sullivan, her son Bill Sullivan, her
