Our hero, our Pop, Odell Noah Cox, 94, passed away on May 2, 2026 after a lengthy battle with cancer. A graveside service for Mr. Cox will be held at 2 PM, Friday, may 15, 2026, at Hillside Memorial Gardens with Hospice Chaplain Kinney Robinson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.Odell was born March 19, 1932 to Lee and Inez (Clements)Cox. He married the love of his life, Carolyn Smith, on December 27, 1955. She proceeded him in death in 2013. Odell enjoyed farming, playing 42, riding motorcycles, watching football, baseball and rodeos, taking road trips with his wife and family and meeting at the donut shop for coffee and breakfast with his friends. Odell worked for Santa Fe Railroad Land Division as a truck driver for more than 20 years. He joined the Snyder Volunteer Fire Department January 24,1957 and then became a paid firefighter for the City of Snyder June 1, 1974. He provided dedicated service to Scurry County for 43 years, retiring April 28, 2000. Lovingly referred to as Pop by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, many have described him as a mentor, a great friend, a great man in general. He was named Fireman of the Year in 1983 and won the Melvin Newton Award in 1997.
Survivors include his son and daughter in law Kyle and Toni Cox of Kingsland, daughter and son in law Kristi and Ricky Hill. Grandchildren Krystal (Christopher) Kuliga, Justin Cox, Joshua Beasley (Nikita Mills), Lindsey Meighen, Jacob Nachlinger(Rebecca Riggs), Braden Hall (Caitlyn) and Kyla (Zachary) Fearn and adopted granddaughter Savannah (Patrick) Schuette. 10 great grandchildren Josh (Elizabeth)Beasley, Jaxon Beasley, Blaine Beasley, Alize Beasley, Blakely Nachlinger, Paxton Meighen, Harper Meighen, Lesleigh Beasley, Rowan Hall, Finlee Fearn, Octavia and Wyatt Schuette and little Delaine, who is expected to arrive in the next six weeks to Josh and Elizabeth. He is also survived by many friends. There is no visitation planned at this time.
