Sedalia Jan Jinkins left her earthly home and met Jesus face to face on Friday, October 9, 2026. Her life was truly a miracle.
She was born on July 18, 1933, at home in the shinnery of Hawley, TX. She weighed a whopping 2-½ lbs. Before the time of NICU units and teams of doctors, her parents kept her warm by placing her in a shoe box by the stove. She thrived and lived a full life for the next 93 years. One of her proudest achievements was playing basketball for the Hawley Bearcats in the state tournament during her senior year. Following graduation, her first job was a window dresser for Woolworth's in Abilene, TX.
Jan first met a young man, C.J. Jinkins, when he was visiting a family with one of his cousins. It so happened that it was at her best friend’s house where she was also visiting. C.J. watched Jan helping her friend and mother prepare and serve a meal and was struck by the capable and caring way she tended to everyone. He remarked to his cousin, “That little girl is going to make someone a good wife someday.” Little did he know how prophetic those words would be. A few years later, their paths crossed again and they began dating. Following C.J.’s service in the Army, eight years after their first meeting, he returned home and proposed. They were married on Christmas Day, 1953, beginning a love story and marriage that would span 45 years, until his passing.
Jan worked in retail for most of her life. In her jobs, she met an abundance of people and made many friends. Numerous people went to her check-out lane because she was their favorite checker. She was non-judgmental, never met a stranger, and had a heart of gold. She was a “band mom” and spent many Friday nights chaperoning on band buses. Her grandkids called her DeDe as did their friends and parents. Some people in town thought that was her real name. She was a member of Colonial Hill Baptist Church and the Love Sunday School class for 59 years. One of her favorite things to do was help prepare and serve Monday Lunch for high school students.
She was preceded in death by her husband C.J. Jinkins, Jr, her parents, William and Lena Davis, one infant brother and three others, Bill Davis, Russell Davis, and James Davis, a sister, Nita Borders, and a son-in-law, David Waltz.
She is survived by her son, Cody Jinkins and wife, Vicky; three daughters, Cindy Brewster and husband, Jackson, Cathy Jinkins, and Christy Waltz; two grandsons, Casey Pierce and wife Kelly, and Jason Powell; five granddaughters, Kendall Brewster, Allie DeLoera and husband Ruben, Maranda Freeman and husband, Jake, Tuesday Waltz, and Bonnie Graham and husband, Dearl; three great-grandsons, Dozer DeLoera, Andrew Pierce, and Bryton Graham; eight great-granddaughters, Riley Owen, Trusslynn Owen, Adalayde DeLoera, Arabelle DeLoera, Cynthia Rose DeLoera, Savannah Freeman, Bailey Graham and Maryanne Pierce who is scheduled to arrive in January, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank West Texas Health and Hospice and GoodLife Senior Living Center for their exceptional care during her last days.
